The 2024 Prefontaine Classic, which took place this past weekend at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, scored 96,053 points in the World Athletics Competition Performance Rankings. This is the most points a single day meet has ever scored, and the fourth-most points ever scored by a professional invitational meet. In September 2023, The Prefontaine Classic hosted the prestigious Wanda Diamond League Final over the course of two days and earned the best score in the history of competition performance rankings.

The competition performance rankings are calculated based on results scores, participation scores, and world record scores. With a world record in the women’s 10,000 meters and seven world-leading performances,  this year’s Prefontaine Classic earned the second highest results specific score of all-time (88,568 points). Only the 2023 edition of the Pre Classic has achieved a higher score (90,096 points). A full breakdown of this year’s Pre Classic points in each category may be found here (WorldAthletics.org).

A part of the Wanda Diamond League circuit, the world’s top athletes descended upon Hayward Field for the Pre Classic on Saturday, May 25 and earned points in their respective event based on how they performed. The top-performing athletes with the most points will earn a trip to the 2024 Wanda Diamond League Final in Brussels, Belgium.
