Save the date: The Prefontaine Classic returns July 5, 2025

2025 marks the 50th edition of the historic meet

With yesterday’s impressive conclusion to the 2024 Wanda Diamond League circuit at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme, all eyes turn to the 2025 season. The Prefontaine Classic, a member of the Wanda Diamond League series since 2010, returns to Hayward Field at the University of Oregon on Saturday, July 5, 2025 for the 50th edition of the meet.

On June 7, 1975, the first Prefontaine Classic was held at Hayward Field. The meet was originally named the Hayward Restoration Meet and was dedicated as “a living memorial” to Steve Prefontaine, who tragically passed away a week prior.  Since then, the meet has established itself as a home for the world’s best athletes, proudly hosting athletes from over 150 countries during its history. The world-renowned success of The Prefontaine Classic led to it becoming a founding member of the Wanda Diamond League circuit in 2010, and hosting the Wanda Diamond League Final in 2023. That same 2023 edition of the Pre Classic earned the highest competition performance score ever recorded by World Athletics.

Fans and athletes have come to expect world-class entertainment at every iteration of The Prefontaine Classic, and the 50th edition will be no different. Fans can sign up to receive updates on the 2025 Prefontaine Classic, including ticket information, VIP hospitality experiences, and athlete announcements here.

Media accreditation requests can be submitted in early March 2025 at portal.diamondleague.com.
