The Prefontaine Classic to Host Women’s Long Jump Olympic Podium Rematch
The Women’s Long Jump competition at the 2025 Prefontaine Classic will bring another Paris Podium Rematch to Hayward Field on Saturday, July 5. The jumpers will take off in Eugene seeking to fly by the 7m (22’ 11.75”) mark and capture the No. 1 world ranking.
Reigning Olympic gold medalist Tara Davis-Woodhall (USA) returns to the Pre Classic for the first time since 2022, now coming in with an Olympic gold medal, World Indoor Championships gold medal, and World Outdoor Championships silver medal to her name. The American jumped 7.10m (23’ 3.5”) for her gold medal this past summer at Stade de France, just off her overall personal best of 7.18m (23’ 6.75”) in the event set indoors earlier that year. Davis-Woodhall went undefeated in the Women’s Long Jump over the 2024 season.
Reigning Olympic silver medalist Malaika Mihambo (GER) makes her Pre Classic debut coming off a thrilling 2024 season that was capped with her second-ever Olympic medal. Mihambo previously won gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games, gold at both the 2019 and 2022 World Athletics Outdoor Championships, and was the Women’s Long Jump champion at the 2019 Wanda Diamond League Final. In Mihambo’s last Hayward Field appearance, she jumped 7.12m (23’ 4.5”) to win gold at the 2022 World Athletics Outdoor Championships. Her personal best in the event, set in 2019, is 7.30m (23’ 11.5”).
Reigning Olympic bronze medalist Jasmine Moore (USA) made history this summer as the first American woman to ever medal in both the Long Jump and Triple Jump at the Olympic Games. Moore’s 6.96m (22’ 10”) jump for bronze in Stade de France was just two centimeters behind Mihambo’s silver medal leap. Hayward Field is home to Moore’s longest-ever outdoor long jump of 6.98m (22’ 10.75”), achieved at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track & Field.
The last time the Women’s Long Jump was contested at the Pre Classic was in 2023, when the meeting served as the Wanda Diamond League Final and Ivana Vuleta took home the Diamond trophy with a 6.85m (22’ 5.75”) jump.
The 50th edition of The Prefontaine Classic will be held on Saturday, July 5 at Hayward Field. Tickets start at just $25 and may be purchased here. Lexus Legacy Experience VIP packages, which can be purchased in addition to an event ticket, are on sale now.
